I think I'm gonna start turning this updates section etc into a bit more of a blog-ish thing, as well as a place to announce what's new. ^_^;; Still not planning on installing an extension that allows comments, though. Still haunted by the time I tried using Wordpress! RIP. I'm also kinda kicking around the idea of reconfiguring this index landing page to support the more blog-ish approach? But I still want to keep The New Normal and It Doesn't Matter as easy as possible to get to, since they're my main projects. ^_^;; And here's the part that I admit that I don't actually know how easy this site is for people who aren't me to navigate. I could probably jump over some of that issue by buying domain redirects to pop people directly onto The New Normal and It Doesn't Matter's pages, though I'd still want to put some sort of feature button for them. ^_^;; I gotta figure out where in this template's three CSS files I need to tweak things so I can set up a hover animation on image links...or rebuild this site from the ground up. RIP!

Oof. Last week was a ride! So on top of being insanely busy, I posted All Cops Are Bad. Here, I kinda thought people would get on my case about "it's bastards, not bad," and I'd have to explain that "bastard" is a word I prefer to avoid (I'm not saying I never use it, but I try not to just due to some associations with someone I used to know), and that I'm gonna use "bad" but we're all good...and woof. That was not what people got on my case about! In retrospect, I was a bit over-optimistic. I did spend a bit of time yelling on the internet with people about it, but then some family drama happened, and...I didn't have the energy to yell on the internet. Yelling in real life was hopefully more useful, anyway. I'll be sure not to stop yelling on the internet too, just also make art and stuff. And still so some more ACAB and Black Lives Matter art. Apparently I might need to be a bit more explanatory with it as well.
Man, this isn't even actually very incendiary. Whatevs.
Yeah, also, no It Doesn't Matter shot this week, partly because it's a particularly long shot this week, aaaand partly because protesting is a thing. That happens to be important. End of line.

Posted a Sonic the Hedgehog TF sequence, because THIS IS A THING I CAN DO! I spend a lot of time on my long-form projects, especially It Doesn't Matter, which is a big long Sonic TF story (THAT I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO THE TF PART, HECK!), so in my head I'm always working on TFs and Sonic TFs...but that's not always reflected in my galleries, is it! I had some feedback that people missed my Sonic TFs, and I miss having some Sonic TF to show for myself. Let's split the difference.

LET'S DO THIS! For everybody who doesn't know (which seems like most peoples), I have two main projects right now, the comic The New Normal, and It Doesn't Matter, my big stupid Sonic TF animation...that still hasn't gotten to the TF yet, cuz I'm setting up the story and animating is slow. The way I've been doing it is I alternate weeks where I put out a page of The New Normal and a shot (in animation terms scene, but yanno, confusing) of It Doesn't Matter! So below's this week's update of It Doesn't Matter Zone 1, Scene 5 (so far)! The full It Doesn't Matter Zone 1 (so far) is embedded at the top of the page! (Except if you're reading this from the update archive in the FUTURE! Do you have flying cars, yet?)
Oh, and I haven't put sound effects in on scene 5 yet, and kinda not dialed in all the sound period just yet.

I kinda tried out a backdrop I've been working on for various banners and as a backdrop for streams (which is what I initially put it together for) to build some visual consistency across platforms. Okay, site is back up! Um, The New Normal page 21 is up, which is also good! Yeah, I initially forgot to write it up on here in the site updates and just changed the image on the below update to the page 21 thumbnail, which was dumb? Whoops.
But yeah, I guess that's a lotta years with this webhost with no problems, and then suddenly ALL THE PROBLEMS? I am the frustrated, and worried it'll continue. Writing out all these pages, and comic descriptions and everything takes a ton of time, and this isn't the first time I've had to do it for literally every page up on this site. I had another site way back in the day, I did it then. Actually, it was DarkWindStudios.com, and there's a surprising amount of it archived in the Wayback Machine, if you're curious. Oooh, secrets for people who actually look at SonicSpirit.net!
I have no idea what this site's metrics are. I'm guessing 5. All of them me! I'm sure there's a way to check, but I can't be bothered to look it up right now!

Okay, I realized I still hadn't posted this just yet! New Normal Character Design: R and R is up in the gallery, now! It's the character design page for Rae and Ravage in The New Normal, and a giant blurb about the girls' origins! I'm excited to finally feature Rae and Ravage in a comic that's actually happening, since they've both been kicking around my head for so long!
And yeah, Rae is kinda sorta Tsuki from Tsuki's Shorts 2.0. Kinda. Which yes, means she inherited a lot of traits from one of my old avatar characters. Yeeeeeep!

Busy past couple of weeks! I was at FurSquared all last weekend, so New Normal page 18 will go up this week, but over the past week Moon Silver (a TF commission for Evroxt), The Round Pen (Illustration and Short Story), and FurSquared 2020 Propaganda Posters and Signage have gone live! Moon Silver was a TF commission I started before FurSquared, The Round Pen is one of my submissions for FetZine, and then I also posted a collection of the propaganda art I did for FurSquared! That was such a blast!

January, February, and March Schedule
Okay, let's do this! I'm gonna try this "Actually laying out a schedule," thing, and see how that goes! First up, I'm gonna put Anything But Ordinary and Thus Spake the Gods: Humans Suck on hiatus.
Thus Spake's reason is easy: after Bipsy passed...it's hard to look at or work on. Also I was kinda writing it on the fly, so I don't have anything that had been plotted out or waiting in the wings that I'm really desperate to get to. I have a few comics penciled that were fun jokes with Wynn and Taryn, and a couple that were trying to bridge the gap and introduce Taryn, and...yeah. Not much else. I'd originally cannibalized Wynn's design from some half-started ideas I'd been playing around with, and might bring him back in some capacity down the line, cuz I do have a couple fun one-off jokes written...but right now I wanna re-focus on The New Normal...and It Doesn't Matter.
That kinda leads in to why I'm benching Anything But Ordinary...especially right after starting Chapter 2. I like working on it, it's a lot of fun and has been a great place to experiment, and I dunno, maybe it can still be that...? But how depressing an idea is that? "This comic is the gulag for whenever I want to try a different approach?" Blurgh. I don't love that idea. But anyway, Anything But Ordinary is good and fun, and I like working on it...but time is limited, and I kinda want to pour more of the time I'm working on it into other projects...namely projects I've written myself. Plus, 36 pages in 9 years? That's embarrassingly low.
...Which is kinda why I want to refocus on the two projects I pretty much can't imagine cutting. The comic I don't know if it'll even have an audience, and the ridiculously bloated Sonic TF animation story that takes forever to get a couple of seconds of footage finished. Clearly, I am the best at decision-making. Buuut, yeah...these projects are the ones closest to my heart. The New Normal is a long-form comic story built of so many ideas and thought threads that've percolated in the back of my head over years that embraces TF, unicorns, mythical creatures, magic, acclimating to new forms, and finding strength through community...it's fun, and dramatic, and gives me an outlet for the unicorn part of myself when it rises up strong and fierce. It Doesn't Matter...is the worst idea I've ever pursued so hard, because if you strip away all pretension, it's just me. I break every stipulation and storytelling rule I have for myself with it, from concept to execution, because It Doesn't Matter. And honestly if I could work on only one project for the rest of my life (which would be awful, I am an Idea Factory), it would be this one...despite the fact that that's probably the worst possible choice I could possibly make. But It Doesn't Matter, I'd work on It Doesn't Matter anyway. Even if that makes me a hack.
Okay, well, that's a lot of words. So what does all that mean? Before...November, really, when Bippy passed, and then the holidays hit with a deluge of familial obligations, I'd been working to update a comic per week, releasing on Patreon on the weekend upon completion (be that Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), and then here (and everywhere else) on Tuesday. That was good. I liked that. Buuut it basically meant that each comic was updated once per month, and IDM happened whenever I squeezed it in and sometimes took over space in the rotation, even though I didn't have it scheduled there...I'd just previously been pumping out a shot a week for IDM and had tried to plaster the comic schedule on top of that...yeah, that didn't work.
So! In an effort to have a consistent, dare I say "predictable" schedule, and to get some movement on the two projects I've chosen, The Plan is to rotate weeks between It Doesn't Matter and The New Normal, with the idea being that I'll finish It Doesn't Matter shots on its weeks, and the next page of The New Normal on its week. Also I want to throw in mid-week illustrations, or design swag, because I really want to have more to show for myself than what I do, and yeah.
So yeah. Current week is set to be an It Doesn't Matter week, with the goal of posting the current shot I...honestly spent way too much time backgrounding already this weekend on Patreon, and then making it live everywhere else Tuesday January 14, New Normal would be the next week and go live everywhere January 21, then back to IDM, and so on and so forth. We'll try that 'til March, and I can even lay out a concrete schedule to actually hold myself to with dates and everything...that I will promptly probably fuck up, but whatever, we'll try anyway!
